PORT HARCOURT – Minister of Defence, General Mansur Dan-Ali rtd has inaugurated the first set of military officers admitted into the newly established Naval War college in Rivers state, urging Nigerians to support the military to effectively tackle challenges of insecurity.

Speaking yesterday at the inauguration ceremony of the Course 1 participants the Minister , General Dan-Ali said the newly established Naval War College, said the place was set up to train senior naval leaders and those from other services as Operational level commanders.
Earlier, the Chief of Naval Staff, CNS, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas in his welcome address assured that the Navy would continue to take steps to wipe out sea piracy, oil theft and related crime from the nation’s maritime waterways.
He said approaches by the navy such as choke point management and several operations launched in the Niger Delta region had recorded success in the fight against oil thieves, adding that it also helped to mop up illegal firearms in circulation.
He said the new Naval War college would mould new breed of maritime security experts that will help achieve the core mandate of the navy which among others include securing the nation’s maritime environment
“The Naval War college will promote higher level operational thinking. They will be exposed to needed skill for maritime operarions”, he stressed.
Commandant of the Naval War college, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia said the admission of the first set of participants into the school’s training program was a long dream come true.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah rtd, Secretary, Rivers state government, Mr Kenneth Kobani and other senior military officers were among dignitaries at the event.
