P-Square’s fight is a publicity stunt –Kenny Ogungbe

Even as Peter and Paul of the P Square group stunned some of their fans with their latest brouhaha about parting ways and fighting each other in a leaked video , not just a few also believe that all the stuff is just publicity stunt
Veteran broadcaster , Kenny Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke is one of those who feel so.
During his radio show on Kennis FM on Wednesday , the Kennis Music record label boss said he believes the fight between the P-Square brothers is a publicity stunt.
“I am sure they have a massive show coming up in December and they are using this as a publicity stunt . They have over 100 songs and people who called us on the radio within 15 minutes, requested for about 29 of their songs.
“If you are breaking up after recording about 100 songs, will you break up to record another big song as a solo artiste? At what age? How many songs are they going to release that would be up to what they have released already ? At what age do they want to do that when people are interested in listening to songs released by younger artistes ? Quote me anywhere that I said it is a game. In the video that was released online, Paul said it was a shame to Peter. It is a game ( laughs). Quote me anywhere that I said that it is a game but if they don’ t get back together , good luck to them,.

22 dead, 32 injured in stampede near Mumbai railway station

At least 22 people were killed in a stampede on a bridge near a railway station in Mumbai on Friday after heavy rains, officials said.
The stampede broke out during morning rush hour on a bridge connecting the Lower Parel and Elphinstone stations.
Police said the staircase on the bridge became overcrowded amid surging crowds and people not exiting due to the heavy downpour.
“Some witnesses say the stampede was triggered due to rumours in the crowd that the bridge had collapsed or people had got electrocuted, others say women slipped off the stairs, setting off panic in the crowd,” police officer, Sunil Deshmukh, said.
“There was chaos all around on the narrow bridge, people jumped over each other and many were seriously injured.’’
In all, 22 people had died, Regional Health Minister, Deepak Sawant, said.
Some 32 more were hospitalised, and with many in a serious condition, the death toll could increase, he added.
Footage on television channels showed people on the ground, many not moving at all, with locals attempting to revive them with water and first aid.
The two stations are used by many of Mumbai’s train commuters and there are a number of offices in area.
Media reports said there had been calls for widening and repairing the bridge, which was not strong enough to take the huge rush between the stations.
“It was a disaster waiting to happen,’’ a local resident told broadcaster NDTV, saying that the station has been overcrowded and there have been multiple demands for more such bridges.
Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal, offered condolences and ordered a high-level probe into the tragedy.
“There were several inspections by railway officials and local politicians following the complaints, but nothing happened.
“There was a delay in addressing the problem,” Sawant admitted.
The tragedy has again put the spotlight on the criticism surrounding the country’s ageing railway infrastructure.
Mumbai’s local railway system is the lifeline for the 20 million inhabitants of the metropolis and accidents are common on the busy network.

Henceforth, Nigeria to bear costs, risks of crude oil sales — NNPC

…To ship, sell crude directly to buyers
By Michael Eboh
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Thursday, said it plans to undertake a review of its approach to crude oil sales, declaring that in the days ahead, it would commence the sale of more of the country’s crude oil on a Cost, Insurance and Freight, CIF, basis.

Fuel tanker Manace
Speaking at the 2017 Annual Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference in Singapore, General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari, said the corporation’s decision to review its approach to crude oil sales was to enable it sell directly to customers and ensure security of supply.
Cost, Insurance and Freight, CIF, is a term used in international trade covering both sea and inland waterways, requiring the seller to arrange for the carriage of goods by sea from the port of origin to a port of destination, and also provide the buyer with the documents necessary to obtain the goods from the carrier.
Currently, Nigeria’s crude oil is sold on a Free On Board, FOB, basis, an agreement whereby the seller arranges for the transport of goods to a designated port or other point of origin. Once the seller releases the goods to the buyer, when the goods are onboard the ship, the delivery is considered accomplished.
In FOB, the point at which responsibility shifts from the seller to the buyer occurs when the shipment reaches the point of origin. With a CIF agreement, the seller assumes responsibility and pays costs until the goods reach the buyer’s chosen port of destination. Furthermore, unlike CIF, FOB contracts are not limited to sea freight, and may also be used for inland and air shipments.

Messi hits four as Barca maintain perfect start

Lionel Messi added four more goals to his soaring early season tally as a much-changed Barcelona maintained their 100 percent start to La Liga by routing Eibar 6-1 on Tuesday.
Paulinho and Denis Suarez also netted for the second consecutive game as Barca stretched their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points over Real Madrid, who host Real Betis on Wednesday.
“That Messi scored four goals now isn’t news,” said Barca boss Ernesto Valverde after the Argentine’s 43rd career hat-trick.
“He has done it so many nights, in so many games. To keep repeating it is the most difficult thing.
“He is an extraordinary player. I have run out of words for him.”
Messi played in a more central role as Valverde heavily rotated his side for the first time since taking charge with Luis Suarez dropping to the bench among six changes from Saturday’s hard-fought 2-1 win at Getafe.
And contrary to their fortunes last season, Barca’s back-ups proved Valverde can take the luxury of resting some of his star names with Paulinho particularly impressive on his first start.
Messi opened the scoring in nonchalant fashion from the penalty spot on 21 minutes after Nelson Semedo had been felled by an ungainly challenge from Alejandro Galvez.
Paulinho’s 40-million-euro ($48 million) signing from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande was one of a series of moves that drew stinging criticism for Barca’s board following Neymar’s world-record departure for Paris Saint-Germain.
However, after coming off the bench to score the winner at Getafe, Paulinho powered home his second Barca goal from Denis Suarez’s corner seven minutes before half-time.
Paulinho also played his part in Barca’s third with a cute dummy that freed Messi and, when his shot was parried by Marko Dmitrovic, Denis Suarez fired home the rebound.
Sergi Enrich reduced the arrears when he capitalised on some sloppy Barca defending to slot home David Junca’s cross.
However, Messi quickly restored Barca’s three-goal lead with a lovely measured finish from the edge of the box.
The five-time world player of the year completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark by prodding through Dmitrovic’s legs from Paulinho’s pass.
And he added his 12th goal in just eight games this season three minutes from time after a neat one-two with Aleix Vidal.

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has fixed November 3 , 2017 , to hear the appeal filed by wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, against the temporary seizure of a sum of $ 5 . 9 m found in her Skye Bank account .
The appellate court fixed the date at the Monday proceedings in the case .
Patience, through her lawyer , Chief Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) , is urging the Court of Appeal to overturn an April 26, 2017, interim order of Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos that the $ 5 . 9 m found in her Skye Bank account should be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government.
The forfeiture order was made in favour of the EFCC which took an ex parte application before the judge .
Apart from Patience ’ s personal account with $ 5 . 9 m, the court also froze a number of accounts linked to her , including an Ecobank account , with a balance of N2 . 4 bn , opened in the name of one La Wari Furniture and Bath Limited.
In a supporting affidavit attached to the ex parte application, the EFCC told Justice Olatoregun that the funds were suspected to be proceeds of Patience’ s alleged criminal activities.
An EFCC operative, Musbahu Abubakar , who deposed to the affidavit, stated that Patience opened the Skye Bank account on February 7 , 2013 , and used it to allegedly warehouse proceeds of crime.
According to Abubakar , the former first lady made several cash deposits in United States dollar into the account, through a former Special Assistant to ex -President Jonathan , Waripamo -Owei Dudafa, and a State House steward , Festus Iyoha.
He said as of January 30 , 2015, the Skye Bank account had a balance of $ 6 . 7 m but Patience subsequently withdrew it down to $ 5 . 9 m.
The EFCC had prayed the court to urgently freeze the account so as to prevent Patience for moving the funds.

Nigerian businessman urges FG to relax restrictions on food export

Johannesburg – Mr Ken Ayere, a South Africa-based Nigerian businessman, on Monday urged the Federal Government to relax restrictions on the export of some food items.
Ayere, a former President of Nigerians in Diaspora, in Johannesburg on Monday said that Nigerian restaurant operators in that country had challenges importing some food items.
He noted that the level of acceptability of African cuisine, especially Nigerian Foods, was very high.
“We have this challenge of getting some of our local foods into South Africa. For instance, we import plantain from the United States of America and yam from Ghana.
“ By the time these foods arrive and the time used to check them, some will get rotten and not suitable for consumption.”
Ayere, a former bureau chief of NAN in South Africa, suggested that officials of both countries should jointly inspect export produce at the ports, to ensure that correct foods are brought in.
“Besides, it will make it easy for clearance at the ports here when the containers arrive. This has been a big challenge and we appeal to the Federal government to relax restrictions on the export of some Nigerian foods.
“Specifically, we need yam, plantain, spices, snail and palm oil for our business. We appeal to the government to make their export easy, to improve our delicacies.

Terrorism charge: Nnamdi Kanu flees, goes into hiding

Our Correspondents
The founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and top leaders of his group have gone into hiding following Friday’ s declaration by the Nigerian Army that IPOB and other Pro-Biafran groups were terrorists organisations.
Investigations by SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday revealed that Kanu and his top lieutenants had ‘ disappeared’ from his country home in Afaraukwu near Umuahia and other places he frequently visited .
His father , Eze Israel Kanu , is the traditional ruler of the town.
Some IPOB members, who spoke on conditions of anonymity explained that Kanu and others were advised to go underground following the declaration by the Army and the decision of the South -East governors to proscribe activities of pro -Biafra agitators in the region.
An IPOB member said, “ We have to apply wisdom to whatever we are doing. We have realised that there is a grand conspiracy against Kanu and other top leaders of our group .
“Just imagine barely few hours after the Nigerian military declared members of IPOB and other pro-Biafran groups as terrorists , our own governors came up with their own outright ban of our activities.
“This definitely will give the soldiers and other security agencies the opportunity to arrest our leader and mount a deadly clampdown on all IPOB members. So , it is better to operate from a hideout for now. ”

How Calabar flood targets ‘Target Street’ to flush out residents

A 25 -year-old nursing mother , Mrs. Ndidi Okereke , almost threw her three -month-old baby into the flood on August 15, after a ravaging downpour brought down one side of her rented two bedroomed apartment along Target Street in the Calabar-South axis of the Cross River State capital .
The speed at which the water found its way into her home within split seconds , left the mother of three traumatised.
It took the swift intervention of some neighbours who were also in the same dilemma to first sort out the pathetic case of Mrs. Okereke before facing theirs.
Although flood has become a recurring decimal in most parts of the country, the case of Target Street and its environs in Calabar is peculiar because residents go through horrendous experiences any day there is downpour.
While many residents of Target Street , Goldie , Murray, Ebito and the lower part of Nelson Mandela streets are said to have died out of frustration caused by the disaster , others have lost property worth millions of naira to the flood in the area each time it rained .
In fact , authorities of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency say no fewer than 15 persons have died within the last one month in the flood-prone areas of the state.

Ibrahimovic vows to return better than ever

Swedish football great Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he will surprise many by performing better for Manchester United than he did before suffering a serious knee injury earlier this year.
The 35 -year-old veteran striker — who defied the critics in scoring 28 goals for United last season , including crucial goals in their Community Shield and League Cup victories — told ‘ Inside United ’ he had not let the ligament injury get him down.
Ibrahimovic enjoys a good relationship with United manager Jose Mourinho, who maintained contact with him during his rehabilitation , and the Portuguese decided it was worth offering him a new one year contract last month.
I have trained every day since I had my knee operated on, there is no vacation .
“It ’ s a new challenge but I am strong mentally and when I focus on an objective nothing can stop me.
“I will go through everything , it doesn ’ t matter what’ s in my way, I will break everything to reach my goal .
“When I come back to play football on the field I will be better than before. I am not coming back because I am the one I am, I am coming back to be a better version of the old one. Imagine how that will be !”

Army faults Ikpeazu, says Op Python Dance goes on, 30 IPOB members remanded

…Army probing viral video, says 82 Div spokesman; PDP calls for panel
…Police in talks with S-East govs to mobilize leaders for intervention
…30 IPOB members remanded over rampage in Rivers
UMUAHIA — THE Nigerian Army, last night, said Operation Python Dance II currently ongoing in the South East, will continue.
The Army in a statement signed, last night, by Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, asked the public not to misconstrue the statement of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, yesterday, to mean that the Army was totally halting the Operation Python Dance II in the South East, including Abia State.

statement read: ‘’The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to some stories in the media that it is withdrawing its troops from exercise EGWU EKE II, crediting such information to Abia State Governor and the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army. This is not true. The Nigerian Army wishes to enjoin members of the public to disregard such rumours.
‘’For the avoidance of doubt, the Abia State Governor in his speech stated that “there will be gradual withdrawal of soldiers on the streets of Aba and Umuahia from tomorrow.
‘’This should not be misconstrued as withdrawing of troops earmarked for Exercise EGWU EKE II. The General Officer Commanding 82 Division has not said such thing.
‘’Consequently, we wish to state that exercise EGWU EKE II is commencing tomorrow as scheduled. Commanders have been instructed to ensure that all hands are on deck to commence the exercise to its logical completion.
‘’We wish to state further that the successful completion of the exercise will dovetail into the various states security outfits till the end of this year.
‘’Members of the public, especially in the areas where the exercise will take place, are please enjoined to go about their lawful businesses. We wish to also state that we would not allow any individual or group to jeopardize the conduct of the field training exercise through unlawful or criminal activities. ‘’Hoodlums and criminal elements are once again warned to be law abiding and not cause any breach of peace.

Atiku Abubakar: Virtuous or vile?

In the eyes of the apparatchiks of Nigeria ’ s ruling All Progressives Congress, and tub -thumpers of President Muhammadu Buhari , there is no vacuum in the presidential leadership today . Buhari , a man who seems to have triumphed after wrestling with the beast of an undisclosed ailment, remains the President. From all indications, those of us praying for an upbeat health for this President may have got a nod of approval from Divinity. I pray for more blithesome strength for Mr . President.
Seventy-year-old Atiku is a stupendously rich , and a furiously famous man. Many close to the Turaki of Adamawa will tell you he is a good and generous human being . Atiku is a big splurge . A big -spender Nigerian politician is a darling in our system because money answers many things with my people , especially where millions are hungry and poor. Atiku the politician , businessman and philanthropist , held the position of the VP from 1999 to 2007 on the platform of the PDP when Olusegun Obasanjo was President. Before then , he once ran the customs as deputy director; elected governor of Adamawa State 1998; and before he was sworn in , the PDP selected him to run with Obasanjo as running mate. The party won the election and continued its domination for 16 solid years.
If one man fears an Atiku Presidency, it is his old boss, Obasanjo . Baba has said it many times in public that there is a “halo of corruption” hanging over Atiku ’ s head . If you read Baba ’ s book: “ My Watch” , you will be assured of the former President’ s conviction that Atiku must be feared running Nigeria’ s treasury. Atiku denies that. He said he stumbled on wealth through hard work and luck . He has challenged anyone who has any shred of evidence of his alleged thieving nature to come forward . Nobody has come forward ; but Obasanjo said his evidences are plenteous. “ Take a trip to the US, when you return , then I will keep quiet” , Baba once challenged his friend and co -labourer . Atiku , to the best of our knowledge , may have not taken a trip to the US in about a decade . Who is telling the truth?

Flooding: Niger Republic warns Nigeria, 10,000 displaced in Kogi

Ifeanyi Onuba and Gbenga Odogun
The Niger Basin Authority, with headquarters in Niamey , Niger Republic , on Tuesday, warned of imminent flooding in Nigeria.
The NBA is a regional body of nine-member countries in the West and Central Africa, namely Benin, Burkina Faso , Cameroon, Cote d’ Ivoire , Guinea , Mali, Niger , Nigeria and Chad.
The agency said any progressive increase of water levels could have significant impacts on people and property in flood prone areas in the country .
The NBA said in a statement that it would continue to monitor the situation and provide information as it developed.
It said , “ The Niger Basin Authority is following the situation and will provide information as it develops . Consultation can be done for the follow-up of flood forecasts. ”
The Director General , Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Moses Beckley, had said Nigeria should expect more floods of the magnitude comparable to that of 2012 .
He said the flood alert level issued by the NBA was above normal which Nigeria should be wary of.
Beckley said, “ It is above normal . The consequence of that is that there will be more flow into the Nigeria area through the River Niger .
“Since Nigeria is low land, the effect is that as that water comes, expect the water to have arrived in Nigeria from three days after the alert .
“The Jebba and Kainji dams, which were constructed for this same purpose to control the flow of water from upstream, especially water coming from outside, have been so properly managed .

Champions League: Rampant Man City ready to march on Feyenoord

Pep Guardiola ’ s rampant Manchester City will be keen to keep the momentum going as they open the hunt for Champions League glory against a diminished Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Wednesday .
After mauling Liverpool 5 -0 in the Premier League on Saturday, City now travel to face the Dutch champions — who face a daunting prospect after a 15 -year absence from the group stage of the competition.
Eyes in particular will be on City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, whose sublime form played a major part in the Liverpool drubbing and who is sure to sniff out and exploit weaknesses in Feyenoord’ s midfield and defence.
Feyenoord may have beaten Heracles 4 -2 in a Dutch top -flight match over the weekend, but their opponents came dangerously close to scoring more goals — a fact no doubt that will play on coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst ’ s mind.
The Rotterdam club faced a further blow up front after leading striker Nicolai Jorgensen came off with a leg muscle injury 21 minutes into the Heracles game .
The 26 -year-old Danish international — last year’ s Eredivisie top scorer with 21 goals in 32 games — will not play in the City match which opens their Group F campaign, Feyenoord announced on Monday.

Rohingya crisis: Myanmar rebuffs rebel ceasefire

Myanmar has brushed off a one-month unilateral ceasefire announced by a Rohingya militant group in Rakhine.
The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) announced a truce on Sunday, urging Myanmar's army to lay down weapons as well.
But government spokesman Zaw Htay said Myanmar would not negotiate with "terrorists".
About 294,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since violence erupted in Rakhine state last month.
Arsa attacked several police posts on 25 August, killing 12 people. In turn, this prompted a counter-insurgency clampdown from the security forces.
Rohingya residents - a stateless, mostly Muslim minority in Buddhist-majority Myanmar - say the military and Rakhine Buddhists are waging a brutal campaign against them, burning their villages.

ICYMI: US court deals blow to Trump travel ban

A federal court in California dealt a new blow Thursday to the Trump administration’ s travel ban, ruling that some refugees must be allowed into the country .
It is the latest twist of the legal wrangling touched off by President Donald Trump ’ s ban, first announced in January with little notice and widely criticized as discriminatory against Muslims . Trump says it is needed to keep out terrorists .
In the new ruling , the US Ninth Circuit of Appeals , based in San Francisco, upheld a ruling by a court in Hawaii, a decision against which the administration had appealed.
The new decision states that the ban must exclude “refugees who have a formal assurance from an agency within the United States that the agency will provide or ensure the provision of reception and placement services to that refugee. ”
It could pave the way for the entry of some 24 , 000 refugees whose asylum requests had already been approved.

The meeting which started about 2:30pm on Wednesday lasted about twelve hours as the communique was ready about 3am Thursday.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige who was the convener of the meeting made frantic efforts to ensure that the Resident Doctors suspended the strike, when doctors insisted that until they received alerts of the unpaid salaries, they would not suspend the strike.
Intermittently the leaders of Resident Doctors stormed out of the venue of the meeting to consult with the members on the position of the government.
Some of the aggrieved members of NARD who preferred to loiter outside instead of remaining inside the conference room where the meeting was taking place threatened to impeach the leadership if they concede to signing any agreement with the Federal Government’s Negotiation team without receiving alerts.
Following prolonged negotiation which remained inconclusive as at 1am, the parties unanimously resolved that the nationwide industrial action should be suspended as soon as the payment alert are received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) today as promised by the Federal Government’s team

London's Nova Victoria crowned UK's ugliest building

A London office block described as a "bright red hideous mess" has been named the UK's worst building.
Nova Victoria, London won the 2017 Carbuncle Cup with one judge describing it as "cringe-worthy".
It is the sixth consecutive time a London building has scooped the dubious honour run by Building Design Magazine (BD).
Architects PLP described the £380m office complex as a "distinct and architecturally daring" building.
But judges disagreed, describing the building as "crass, over-scaled and a hideous mess".
Judge Catherine Croft said: "It makes me want to cringe physically. It's a crass assault on all your senses from the moment you leave the Tube station."
David Rudlin said the red cathedral like spire on Nova South was a particular cause for concern.
"It's got the same proportions as Salisbury Cathedral. For me the spire gives it carbuncular status - otherwise it's just a bad building", he said.
The development, which occupies a whole city block near London's Victoria station, consists of two office buildings designed by PLP Architecture and a residential building designed by Benson & Forsyth.
The title was awarded to PLP Architecture for the office buildings.

Recession exit report not doctored – Kale

Ifeanyi Onuba, Abuja
The National Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday said that its Gross Domestic Product report which showed that Nigeria exited recession in the second quarter was not politically motivated.
The Statistician-General for the Federation and Chief Executive, NBS, Dr Yemi Kale stated this during a chat with journalists in Abuja.
Kale explained that the NBS is an agency of government that has the independence to carry out survey and publish its findings based on international best practices .
The NBS boss faulted those making claims that the outcome of the report may have been influenced by political considerations , adding that none of the reports of the agency is influenced politically.
Kale said even at the risk of not being reappointed at the tail end of his tenure , economic reports that were not in favour of government activities were published by the agency, adding that if he didn’ t doctor the report then , there was no basis to do so now.
He said, “In this administration, I am the one that published that we are in recession, and I am also the one that is saying, we are now out of recession. ”

100 inmates escape from prison

More than 100 inmates escaped from a prison in the Democratic Republic of Congo during heavy rains, the jail’s Director, Mutanade Nyongoli, said on Tuesday.
A total of 119 inmates broke out of the jail in Kabinda town in central Congo’s Lomami province late on Monday, said Nyongoli.
He said that five others, who had nearly completed their sentences chose to stay in their cells.
“A dozen of the escapees have already been caught by police,’’ Nyongoli said, adding that most of the prisoners had been in pre-trial detention.
Prison breaks are not uncommon in Congo, with about 900 prisoners escaping an institution in North Kivu province in June after gunmen stormed the building.
In a massive prison break in the capital Kinshasa in May, a religious sect attacked a jail and freed an estimated 4,000 inmates.
Rights groups have reported terrible conditions in Congo’s prisons, with overcrowding as well as prolonged pretrial detention among the problems.

Lil Wayne, 34, who has become one of the biggest names in rap music over a two-decade career, suffered a second seizure at the hospital, TMZ added, and his representative confirmed to the site that he had suffered multiple seizures

Four years ago Lil Wayne, whose given name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, spent several days at a Los Angeles hospital, after which he told radio station Power 106 he was epileptic and prone to seizures.

2018 World Cup: Argentina, Chile seek advantage in South America race

Lionel Messi and Argentina will seek to maintain the pressure on Chile with a victory over Venezuela on Tuesday as South America’ s 2018 World Cup qualifying race enters the home stretch.
A faltering campaign has left Argentina fifth in the standings with three games remaining, just outside the top four spots which guarantee automatic entry to next year’ s finals in Russia.
It would still take a dramatic sequence of results for the unthinkable — a World Cup without Argentina and Messi — to become reality.
Chile turmoil –
Despite the nervyness of Argentina ’ s campaign , their fans can console themselves by the thought that Chile have hardly been any more convincing.
The South American champions owe their fourth place in the table to a FIFA sanction which converted a 0 -0 home draw with Bolivia into a 3 -0 win after the Bolivians fielded an ineligible player.
The Chileans face Bolivia again on Tuesday in La Paz, an awkward tie at altitude even if their opponents , who are already eliminated, have little to play for .
Chile’ s faltering qualification campaign suffered a fresh jolt last week with an abject 3 -0 home defeat to Paraguay in Santiago.
The Chileans , who clinched back -to-back Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016, have been beset by turmoil, with Arsenal’ s Alexis Sanchez struggling to find his best form and captain Arturo Vidal raging at his media critics .
Vidal, who scored a spectacular headed own goal in the loss to Paraguay , took to Twitter to vent his frustration after the loss, even hinting that he may quit the national team.
“I’ m sure all the critics are happy now, ” Vidal wrote. “ But don’ t worry , each time I’ m closer to leaving . ”
It was left to Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi to strike a defiant note as his team head to La Paz, insisting that his squad would rediscover the attacking vigour that won them their Copa America crowns .

Recognising Nnamdi Kanu is rewarding bad behaviour — ACF

Do you support the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu?
This is a legal matter of which I am not an authority . You would note that Nnamdi Kanu was arraigned on charges of treasonable felony and was granted bail on medical grounds with clearly spelt out conditions which he accepted of his own volition. But Kanu has observed the bail conditions more in the breach. This has tested the will of the Federal Government which has gone to court to either enforce the bail conditions or have him rearrested. But some other people believe that Kanu ’ s rearrest will make him a political factor in the polity. To this group, it is better to ignore Kanu, while some others are of the view that the Federal Government should dialogue with Kanu and bring about a political solution. But, do we now reward bad behaviours with recognition and concessions by playing up Danegeld in Biafra? To me – unless it is impossible – I would prefer that the law should take its course .

‘Ayade’s impeachment campaign wrong’

A former Chairman of Inter -Party Advisory Council in Cross River State , Mr . Goddie Akpama, has said it was wrong for a group to campaign for the impeachment Governor Ben Ayade over numerous foreign trips.
A group , Cross River Transparency Network International, had on Wednesday unveiled its campaign for the impeachment of the Governor for travelling out of the state for over one month without handing over to his deputy.
The group had also said that it will organise a one-million-man march to protest against the frequent trips and call on the state House of Assembly to commence the process of impeachment.
But in a statement issued in Calabar, Akpama said that although it was right for the group and its members to air their views, such views should be based on truth and rational conclusions .
He said , “Members of the group should have realized that Cross River State cannot, and does not operate in isolation and must of necessity tap from the outside world in order to improve on various facet of its live , especially its economy.
“This dream of moving the economy of the state forward requires the much needed foreign exchange through the attraction of foreign investments , and this explains why Governor Ayade has been travelling aboard periodically to woo investors into the state .

North Korea could have capacity for nuclear strike on US, Europe “within months” – France

France’ s foreign minister warned Friday that North Korea could have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States and even Europe “ within months” .
Jean-Yves Le Drian called the situation following a string of missile tests by Pyongyang “extremely serious ” and urged the reclusive state to turn to dialogue to ease spiralling tensions.
“We see a North Korea whose objective is to have missiles capable of transporting a nuclear weapon tomorrow, ” Le Drian told RTL radio.
“In a few months, that will be a reality. At that moment , when it has the capability to hit the US, even Europe and at the very least Japan and China, with a nuclear weapon , the situation will be explosive. ”
Early on Tuesday, North Korea fired an intermediate -range Hwasong -12 over Japan, prompting US President Donald Trump to say that “ all options ” were on the table in an implied threat of pre-emptive military action .
The UN Security Council denounced Pyongyang’ s latest missile test, unanimously demanding a halt to its programme .
Le Drian called on Pyongyang to “ return to the path of negotiations” in a bid to ease tensions .
A joint mediation effort put forward by China and Russia would involve a mutual pause in both missile tests by North Korea as well as the joint South Korean -US military exercises by Seoul .
Pyongyang has also threatened to fire rockets towards the US Pacific territory of Guam.
In July, it carried out its first two successful tests of an intercontinental -range missile, apparently bringing much of the US mainland into range.
