Germany worries Trump will quit Iran nuclear deal

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Sunday that he feared US President Donald Trump would quit the Iran nuclear deal next week.
Trump is a stern critic of the 2015 accord , which he has called “ the worst deal ever”, and US officials say he intends to tell US Congress next week that Tehran is not honouring its side of the bargain.
“The United States is likely to quit the Iran agreement next week — that is my great concern, ” Gabriel was quoted as saying by national news agency DPA .
However Gabriel said Germany remains committed to the agreement, which Berlin helped negotiate , to stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb.
Gabriel, speaking at a state election campaign event, said his question to Washington was: “ What good will come of us treating Iran as though it is developing nuclear weapons after all ? … Nothing . ”
He accused the US administration of “ replacing the rule of law with the law of the strongest ”.
“And that is a great danger for us because if the United States of America takes that course then the world will change, ” he said.
Trump is expected to announce that he is “ decertifying” Iran’ s compliance with the agreement it signed to limit its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief .
US officials insist this will not sink the deal itself but open the way for Congress to possibly develop new measures to punish other aspects of Iran ’ s behaviour.
Resumed sanctions could derail the accord negotiated with Tehran by former president Barack Obama and other major world powers .
Congress requires the president to certify Iranian compliance with the deal every 90 days. The next date certification date is October 15 .
Under the law , Congress would then have 60 days to decide whether to reimpose sanctions lifted by the deal .

Police invite Davido, others over Tagbo’s controversial death

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Tagbo , a friend of the hip hop musician , David Adeleke , popularly called Davido.
The command said it was awaiting the result of an autopsy conducted on the deceased to ascertain the cause of death, which would guide its investigations.
The Acting Commissioner of Police in the state , Edgar Imohimi, said on Thursday that he had and met with Davido and other parties involved in the case .
Tagbo reportedly died on the eve of his birthday on Tuesday at a bar in the Lekki area of the state .

Storm Nate: Costa Rica World Cup qualifier postponed

The World Cup qualification match set for Friday between Costa Rica and Honduras has been postponed because of heavy rains and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Nate .
The match has been pushed back to Saturday after the storm caused the Costa Rica government to declare a state of emergency and close schools and shops.
Second-placed Costa Rica can clinch their qualification with at least a draw at home to fifth -placed Honduras .
The storm has killed 22 people so far in Central America as it heads towards Mexico and then possibly the US mainland. The storm is expected to hit Cancun, Mexico on Friday before battering the central Gulf Coast on Sunday.

Some suspected cultists whose ages range between 16 and 20, have continued to unleash terror on residents of Idi-Araba of Mushin in Lagos.
It was learnt that the hoodlums, numbering about operate from 10p.m. within the community. They are usually armed with dangerous weapons such as guns, machetes, bottles, charms and stones.
When our correspondent visited the area yesterday, it was learnt that the hoodlums always mobilise from Olorunshogo and NEPA bus stops before they set out for their operation.
A resident, who did not want his name in print, said they were under the siege of the hoodlums at Folarin Street.
According to him, the residents can no longer sleep with their eyes closed.
He said:
“The attack on Folarin Street on October 1 was a surprise as we were still outside celebrating the Independence Anniversary when the hoodlums, all masked, invaded the community. We all had to run into hiding.
“Where I was hiding, I heard the hoodlums daring us to come out and challenge them. But nobody could come out because they were armed to the teeth and they were also chanting war songs. We want police patrol in Mushin.”
A mechanic, who identified himself simply as Mathew, also recounted his experience.
Mathew said the hoodlums attacked him and his colleagues and collected N20,000 from them at gunpoint.
He said: “Before the invasion of Folarin Street by the hoodlums, my colleagues and I were about to share the proceeds we made from the day’s business when the hoodlums arrived and collected the money from us at gunpoint.
“After collecting the money from us, they also went after those who were returning from their various work of places and asked them to drop their phones in a bag and collected their money. Unfortunately, they were doing it unchallenged by security agencies.”
A physically-challenged man, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his vandalised bus was his only source of income and appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, to come to their rescue.
He said: “Since my vehicle was vandalised I have been at home doing nothing. I don’t know where to get the money to fix the broken windscreen. I don’t know why the hoodlums are always on the rampage; government should immediately put them under control.”
A resident, Mr. Kunle Idowu, said after the hoodlums left Folarin Street, about 50 vehicles parked on the street were vandalised by the hoodlums.

A former governor of Anambra State , Mr . Peter Obi , has explained why he is working against the re -election of his successor , Willie Obiano .
Obi, who spoke on Wednesday during a rally organised by the women’ s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party at the PDP secretariat in Awka, Anambra State , said he was just against Obiano ’ s poor performance .
A media aide to governor Obiano , Mr . Egbuna Amuta , had alleged in an interview with a private radio station in the state that Obi ’ s feud with Obiano was because the latter had refused to pay N 7 bn Obi demanded for allegedly funding the 2013 election of Obiano .
But addressing the PDP women on Wednesday , Obi said, ” In 2013, I took Obiano around Anambra State , to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him , so they voted for him because of me.
“I told them , I would be the one to lead a campaign against Obiano if he did not perform well in his first term. Today , can anyone show me what the governor has done within his first term ? He has nothing to show for it. I don ’ t have any issue with Mr . Willie Obiano as a person, but I have issues with Willie Obiano as governor . ”
He said Obiano remained his bossom friend , describing what he called the governor ’ s poor performance as worrisome.

Nigeria’ll implode without restructuring – Dickson

The Governor of Bayelsa State , Mr . Seriake Dickson , has backed the call for the restructuring of Nigeria, saying that in its absence , there will be an implosion in the country.
Dickson stated this in an interview on Sunday shortly after a special thanksgiving service to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the creation of the state and 57 th independence anniversary of Nigeria at the King of Glory Chapel at the Government House.
He insisted that the current structure of the country was not sustainable.
Dickson , who described those calling for restructuring of the country as the ‘’ true patriots of Nigeria , ’’regretted that a number of leaders misconstrued the call for restructuring to mean secession.
He stated, “ My view is that there is an urgent national imperative for us to review the country. Maybe some people have problems with the word restructuring, but we have to re-examine our nation’ s foundation and see how we can make necessary adjustments that will promote a more stable and prosperous Nigeria .
“The structure of the country as it is now is not sustainable. Very often , a number of our leaders misconstrue the call for restructuring to mean secession. No, those calling for restructuring are the patriots of Nigeria because we want to lay a foundation for a Nigeria that will last for the next 50 , 100 and 200 years and above to come .
“Those people forget that in the next 10 , 20 years , the country will be one of the most populous nations on the face of the earth . You can’ t have that kind of high density human population, arguing every day and every time about the injustices and imbalances, there will be an implosion . ’
“So , it is best for us now to have a consensus. If there is any problem at all , it is how do we go about it not whether we should attempt a restructuring or review or not. That to me is taken for granted and I am happy President Muhammadu Buhari said he was not opposed to restructuring. ’’
Dickson added , “We are Nigerians, nobody is more Nigerian than us , nobody is more Nigerian than a Bayelsan or a Niger Delta man . We are the people that have been sustaining this country for over 60 years . Nobody has the right to question our Nigerianess. ”
